Felt and Oskar’s Kunst-As (Art-Axis) is the latest addition to a growing cultural cluster in Asse. The L-shaped building houses the art academy and performing arts societies, provides the brass band with a rehearsal space, and offers the town a multi-purpose function room. The main challenge was to integrate this 5,000 m² programme elegantly into the modest surroundings.

The soft pink tiles cladding the building along the street-facing sides harmonise with the surrounding architecture of the 19th-century chapel. The L-shaped Kunst-As embraces the chapel, as it were, while the tall blind facade with its integrated light display highlights it. At the same time, this facade functions as the bold face of the new academy.
