The new KUUB school is situated in the Nieuw Zuid residential neighbourhood in Antwerp and serves as a public link between houses. A few years ago, during the construction phase, part of the building collapsed – a tragedy in which five workers lost their lives. As such, KUUB symbolises a major trauma in the construction industry, while also representing architecture, social commitment and caring for one another.

AG Vespa represented various schools in Antwerp and put forward the requirement for a school complex with a large sports hall. To speed up the construction process, a Design&Build approach was adopted, with Democo acting as the developer and contractor and Compagnie-O as the architect. Kuub was originally one of the first projects in Nieuw Zuid, but due to delays, it was overtaken by a number of other developments.
