The Team XII architecture competition, organised by the student organisation Existenz (KU Leuven) and open to all architecture students in Belgium, took place for the fifth consecutive year. Once again, participants had twelve hours to create a single powerful poster to convey an idea or concept in response to a socially relevant issue. This time, the competition focused on high-quality village centre densification and reuse.

The site for the brief was the old station building in Nijlen near Antwerp, a building dating from 1925 that has stood empty since 2015 and was recently purchased by a private developer. The municipality hopes that the old station building will continue to play a public role. Pending a final decision on its future use, the participants in the Team XII competition sketched out a number of possible visions for the future.
