If you look at the history of the most influential indie rock or post-punk bands from the 1970s and 1980s, it is striking that they often did not last very long. They were usually founded by very young musicians and broke up after a few intense years. Yet these bands often achieved a unique status in music history, sometimes even unintentionally. To this day, they retain their prestige and continue to inspire people. Their music is so uncompromising that it has stood the test of time and, despite all the developments in the music industry and technology, continues to sound fresh and radical.
In architectural history, Superstudio is the equivalent of this phenomenon. In January, a major exhibition on their work entitled Superstudio Migrazioni opened at the CIVA in Brussels. It is a unique exhibition, not only because it is the first monographic exhibition on Superstudio in Belgium, but also because it features many lesser-known documents from the collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
