In recent decades, competition culture has lent wings to a new generation of architects. This generation has caused a sensation far beyond Belgium. For all that, their practice did not yet differ substantially from that of its predecessors. In recent years, however, new practices have emerged here and there that see the profession in a very different way: some have become project developers or producers of materials, others have set up think tanks or promote not-building. Their common denominator: they want to tackle societal urgencies as architects. But they don’t just want to take off – they also want to land.
