Osk-ar has created Belgium’s very first Teenage School in a former church building in Anderlecht. The architects sought a suitable spatial framework for the school’s specific educational project. This pioneering work has the potential to reshape the educational landscape.

The church, presbytery and outbuildings of St Vincent de Paul in the Scheut district of Anderlecht are now a Teen School, a school that only welcomes pupils from the third stage of primary education (Years 5 and 6) and the first stage of secondary education (Years 7 and 8) . As the transition from primary to secondary school can sometimes be abrupt, a ‘teenage school’ focuses instead on a gradual progression towards greater independence, by dividing the school career into three four-year phases, rather than two six-year phases.
