Working in close collaboration, Meta, advvt, noA and Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen each designed a part of the southern half of the Kaai 37 block in the Cadixwijk, on Antwerp’s Eilandje. The result is a subtle blend of differences and affinities.
It was the developer Project² that brought together the architects from Meta, advvt, noA and Office for this project. Their proposal covered the entire block, but the northern half was ultimately entrusted to a different combination of developer and architects. The homes are grouped above an underground car park, in separate buildings surrounding a communal courtyard garden. Despite the division of the commission, the garden – designed by West 8 as part of the Project² proposal – was realised as a single, unified space across the entire inner area. The southern half of the block consists of four buildings, alternating between 6 and 4 storeys in height, all crowned with a recessed top storey. The complex comprises 72 flats, 5 ground-floor homes and a number of commercial spaces.
