In 2019, A+ Architecture in Belgium and Bozar in Brussels jointly organised a new series of exhibitions on Belgian architectural practices that have attracted international attention in recent years. The Ghent-based architects of Dierendonckblancke are the first to present their work, in the Foyers of Bozar, under the title Praxis, a familiar word from Ancient Greek meaning ‘action’, ‘deed’ or ‘execution’.

The word ‘praxis’ encapsulates everything that Alexander Dierendonck and Isabelle Blancke wish to convey through their first monographic exhibition. The exhibition features fifteen projects that have been completed or are still in progress between 2007 and the present day. There is no specific hierarchy between the projects, but certain rules are rigorously applied: the scale of the projects displayed side by side varies constantly, creating a horizontal layout in which no single project demands all the attention. Dierendonckblancke made most of the scenographic decisions fairly intuitively: contextual and topographical models stand on solid plinths, whilst larger-scale models appear to float on a thin metal plate supported by delicate legs. In these latter models, you can also catch a glimpse of the carefully designed interiors.
