Baukuh was founded by six friends: Paolo Carpi, Silvia Lupi, Vittorio Pizzigoni, Giacomo Summa, Pier Paolo Tamburelli and Andrea Zanderigo. They have realized projects of varying scales at home and abroad, and have participated in international competitions and biennials (Rotterdam, Istanbul, Venice, Chicago) and the Lisbon Triennale. On 7 May Andrea Zanderigo will give a lecture in Bozar, where he will explain some Belgian projects.

Andrea Zanderigo – “In 2004, we unexpectedly won the Europan 7 competition for two sites: the Bakema neighbourhood in Amsterdam and a large site in Budapest. Around the same time, a wider group of us had the idea of setting up a research association that would organise lectures, publications and exhibitions. It was to be called ‘Bunte Kuh’ (‘colourful cow’), after the city where Zarathustra ends up in Nietzsche’s book. That association never materialised, but our practice needed a name and a logo, and the ‘building cow’ was born. At the time, we were scattered across Italy and decided to settle in Genoa. In 2011, we moved to Milan, whilst maintaining a satellite office in Genoa.”
