For the third time, A+ has organised the Across lecture series in collaboration with the Flemish Architecture Institute (VAi) and the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Liège (ULiège). The aim is to promote Belgian architecture across the language divide: Dutch-speaking firms are given a platform in Liège, and French-speaking firms in Antwerp. The eight young firms featured in the 2018 edition are coming together in a single exhibition, supported by and presented at Bozar.
Belgian architecture is gaining considerable recognition abroad, but within the country itself, the language border continues to foster a culture of isolation. That is why Across aims to build a bridge between the language communities. Eight young practices (four French-speaking, four Dutch-speaking) that stand out in their own regions are crossing the language border to showcase their work ‘on the other side’.
