In 2018, everyone is becoming aware of the impact of human activities on the climate. In Maasmechelen, noAarchitecten, in collaboration with Ecotron, has built a greenhouse for Hasselt University to study the impact of global warming on biodiversity in the Campine region.

The plants must be able to be studied there under the best possible conditions. And the technical requirements for maintaining twelve different ecosystems simultaneously are extremely stringent. noAarchitecten opted for a spatial structure that lends itself to the rational organisation of the building’s technical equipment, resulting in a simple, linear layout of identical climate-controlled rooms arranged along a corridor. In addition to humidity and temperature, light levels cannot be left to chance either. Each climate-controlled room has an identical translucent dome that allows light to enter the room in a controlled manner.
