Park Pannenhuis is an extension of the northern section of the Tour & Taxis park. It covers the site of a former marshalling yard and water refilling station for steam locomotives. Developed as part of the ‘Bockstael’ Sustainable Neighbourhood Contract of the City of Brussels, the landscape project was led by Landinzicht in association with Maat-Ontwerpers for the design and the architectural firm Baukunst for the engineering work. The park opened in the spring of 2021.
The site’s former railway use provided the raw material for the new Park Pannenhuis project. The park extends along the lines of the old railway tracks, lines which have been preserved and transformed into a plain here, a bicycle path there, and with sections of the metal rails repurposed in swings and bicycle racks.
