Completed in 2017, this project by Coussée and Goris forms part of a wider initiative spearheaded by Axel Vervoordt of Antwerp. Also bringing together Bodgan & Van Broeck, Stéphane Beel, Michel Desvigne and Tatsuro Miki, Kanaal embodies the vision of a family-run business that sought to create a “place where art, architecture and nature would become one”.

A gallery owner and interior designer, Axel Vervoordt is a man of taste who says he is driven by instinct. “I never have a clear idea of what I’m aiming for. It starts with a feeling and I just go with the flow,” he confesses in an interview. Whilst the idea may be vague, it must be said that Vervoordt certainly has a nose for a good opportunity.
