Pannenhuis Park extends the northern section of Tour & Taxis Park. It covers a former marshalling yard and a site where steam locomotives used to be refuelled with water. Developed as part of the City of Brussels’ ‘Bockstael’ Sustainable Neighbourhood Contract, the landscape project is led by Landinzicht, in partnership with Maat-ontwerpers for the design and the architectural firm Baukunst for the engineering structures. The park opened its doors in spring 2021.
The site’s former railway use provides the raw material for the new Pannenhuis Park project. The park’s layout follows the course of the old tracks, which have been preserved and transformed—here into open ground, there into a cycle path—with sections of metal rail repurposed as swings or bicycle racks.
