Whilst it is often the case that the structure is preserved in order to adapt the space or meet standards by altering materials to give it a new ‘look’, the opposite is true of Label Architecture’s ADEPS sports centre project in Loverval.

To ‘consider’ means to examine in detail and critically. It means to think and to assess. Whether the context is urban – dense and complex – or rural – seemingly unobstructed at first glance – the architects at Label approach it with empathy. For them, the act of building depends on what is already there. Starting from the premise that, even when isolated, a new building is never alone, they incorporate the existing environment right from the design stage. Thus begins a new narrative involving the built environment and the landscape, though it does not necessarily seek to emphasise novelty. What matters is the relationship with the space, and this can be achieved just as much through structural contrast as through formal mimicry.
