It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gideon Boie (1975), architect and philosopher, co-founder of the BAVO collective and visiting professor of architectural criticism at the Faculty of Architecture at KU Leuven, on Wednesday 20 May 2026. As a highly respected architectural critic, he wrote numerous articles and opinion pieces for the magazine A+ Architecture in Belgium, and was a member of the editorial board of several publications issued by the Flemish Architecture Institute. He was a gifted and committed thinker, with an inspiring and critical voice. As a lecturer, he was known for his passion, his generosity and his ability to spark debate. With unwavering intellectual acuity and a deep commitment to the social role of architecture, he inspired generations of students, colleagues and readers. His work demonstrated a rare combination of analytical precision and social commitment, always focused on questioning the obvious and opening up new perspectives. In him, we have lost a committed intellectual and a distinctive voice within architectural education and architectural culture. His legacy lives on in his writings and in the many conversations he set in motion.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who were dear to him.
