In a development zoned for economic activity in the field of research, the non-profit organisation Materia Nova is proposing an extension to its laboratories that will also serve as a showcase for its activities and a new reception area for visitors. The V.O. team, by moving away from the constraints of the development, has devised a solution that is effective in substance and striking in form and materiality.

The client, Materia Nova – a research centre specialising in materials – needs to expand its facilities to accommodate new equipment in order to keep pace with the growth of its activities. To achieve this, its aim is to construct an extension that would bring together a single research sector within one space, create a new entrance and a reception area for visitors, and, ultimately, redevelop the vacant spaces within the existing building.
