Twenty years after its launch, the urban regeneration of the Saint-Léonard neighbourhood in Liège is taking shape through a series of complementary, targeted interventions, to which the Alain Richard Architecture Studio is contributing with its development comprising six social housing units.
Using housing as a catalyst for regeneration, a network of recent architectural projects scattered throughout Liège’s urban fabric is gradually replacing the derelict sites and disused buildings that bear witness to the decline of industrial activity in the city centre since the late 1960s. This renewal reflects a dynamic driven by the City of Liège and its housing department, which combines the objective of creating quality housing with the regeneration of these neighbourhoods through the visibility and strategic positioning of these projects.
