On 22 October, a and Bozar are hosting David Chipperfield for a lecture on his work, on which an impressive monograph has just been published. To mark the occasion, he looks back on a career spanning almost 35 years together with A .

David Chipperfield founded his practice in London in 1985, in the midst of Margaret Thatcher’s ultra-liberal Britain. The practice was soon joined by 9 H, a small exhibition space and the eponymous magazine dedicated to architecture, culture and research, designed to counter the prevailing climate of market-driven construction. It was there that his concern for building within a community and for cultural continuity first came to the fore. That focus resonated internationally in ‘Common Ground’, the theme he developed as curator of the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2012.
