The project As found in Kazanches was created by Luna Catteeuw during the 2017–2018 academic year at the Faculty of Architecture of KULeuven. Together with Tomas Barbera Ramallo (ULB La Cambre-Horta) and François Ricciardi (ULB La Cambre-Horta), she is one of the three joint winners of the 2018 Van Hove Prize. This prize has been awarded annually since 1982 by the Professional Union of Architects (UPA-BUA) and recognises final-year projects from architecture degree programmes.

Faced with the fact that Addis Ababa’s city council has insufficient resources and is grappling with an extreme housing shortage, the government is attempting to resolve the problem as best it can by building new collectively owned housing. However, to make this possible, entire neighbourhoods must be razed to the ground. Furthermore, the Kazanches district in the centre of the Ethiopian capital is earmarked to become the new business centre. These cultural and socio-spatial changes are causing an exodus of the most vulnerable and poorest sections of the population.
