BC architects & studies is building a bioclimatic nursery school in a rural area of Morocco. Solid red-earth walls, mashrabiya screens, shutters and reed roofing panels bear witness to traditional craftsmanship. A strong sense of modernity resonates within this ode to local tradition. A cross-disciplinary concept.
The act of building – the term BC architects & studies uses to describe its working method – links research and the realisation of the project through a participatory and contextual design process. The craftsman designs, the client builds and the architect supplies the building materials. The short-sighted protectionism of the architectural profession must give way to interaction between the disciplines. The roles of architect, client and contractor are becoming increasingly intertwined.
