In this issue of A+, dedicated to texture and tactile materials, we discover striking architectural freedom through interiors. Extravagance can be expressed in a homely atmosphere, because that is where it is allowed. This is certainly the case with the Dailly project, designed by Mamout Architects (Matthieu Busana and Sébastien Dachy) for Matthieu Busana’s family.
A stone’s throw from Dailly Square in Brussels, in the middle of a block of houses, a workshop – once a barn – was dismantled and renovated into a 23-metre-long home. You first have to walk through a covered passageway – a wide entrance shared with the building on the street side – before a small courtyard gives you access to the house. Two things stand out: not only does a bright red front door await you here, but also a sense of tranquillity. The busy, noisy surroundings of the city are immediately forgotten.
