In contemporary architectural projects, sanitary ware is evolving from a purely technical fixture into an integral part of the interior design concept. Aesthetics, ergonomics and sustainability are playing an increasingly important role in this regard. Manufacturers such as DELABIE are developing solutions that respond to this shift, where design and technical performance reinforce one another.

Surface-mounted washbasins as an architectural statement

Surface-mounted and semi-recessed washbasins are rapidly gaining popularity. Thanks to their distinctive design, they create a clear architectural presence within the interior and give designers greater freedom in their choice of materials and composition.

The RAVA countertop washbasin aligns with this approach. Its rounded shape forms a clear geometric volume on the worktop, whilst bacteriostatic 304 stainless steel ensures a distinct material identity. The washbasin is seamlessly extruded from a single piece, without welds or overflow openings. This results in a clean design language and a homogeneous surface that enhances both aesthetics and hygiene, as well as ease of maintenance. Thanks to the robust material, the washbasin is also suitable for high-traffic environments.

Vertical lines and new proportions

The shift towards surface-mounted washbasins also calls for a different approach to taps. Traditional tap heights do not always match the new proportions of contemporary washbasin designs.

To address this, DELABIE has expanded the range of the TEMPOMIX 3 self-closing washbasin mixer tap with increased spout heights of 170 mm and 250 mm. These taller taps improve ergonomics and user comfort with countertop washbasins and integrate more seamlessly into contemporary washbasin designs.

The TEMPOMIX 3 operates via a push-button that both activates the water flow and controls the temperature. The operation has been deliberately kept simple, ensuring the unit retains a visually uncluttered appearance whilst remaining intuitive for a wide range of user profiles. At the same time, the self-closing mechanism contributes to more efficient water management. Thanks to the automatic shut-off, water flows only when needed, which can result in water savings of up to approximately 85% compared to traditional taps.

Innovation recognised by the industry

The design approach behind the TEMPOMIX 3 has also been recognised within the construction sector. At the “Dobbit Innovation Awards 2025”, the tall washbasin mixer was crowned the winner in the “Sanitaryware” category. This award recognises innovations that offer tangible added value for professionals in the construction and installation sectors.

Freedom of integration

For architects, the added value lies primarily in the flexibility of integration. The RAVA washbasin can be combined with both raised taps and wall-mounted solutions, allowing designers to develop various spatial configurations.

When combined with a raised tap such as the TEMPOMIX 3, a composition is created in which line, volume and material reinforce one another. The result is a hand-washing area in which functional elements contribute to the architectural clarity of the whole.
