Jelle Segers graduated as an architectural engineer from Ghent University in 2020. In his final project, Repositioning the Cabin, he explored the typology of the refuge throughout architectural history. His initial question was how a small, temporary retreat, whether near or far, could enable people to live primarily in the city, thereby helping to address urban exodus.

In his research, Segers employed a distinctive, step-by-step methodology: he gradually shifted his perspective and approach in order to gain a multifaceted understanding of the meaning of the refuge, in the past, present and potential future.
