One of Brussels-Capital’s historic and major campuses, Ceria, is undergoing urban expansion. Initially designed in the late 1940s as a campus for teaching food and chemical industries in Walloon Brabant, it is now undergoing a double transformation. The project aims to diversify the nature of the courses offered and to take into account the linguistic dimension. It is being expanded with new infrastructure, including the new Ceria Vertical School, designed by the MS-A team in collaboration with V, 51N4E, BB and Greisch, led by the French Community Commission (COCOF).
The extension moves the boundary of the campus, which is no longer the Drève path, but the Ring. A built front thus rises opposite this strong urban element, without deviating from the very definition of a campus: a group of buildings linked to education spread out within a park. By reinterpreting the idea of the historic campus with expressive basements and passageways connecting the courtyards, the new campus offers porous bases that vary according to the context in which they are located.
