The Océan Nord theatre is housed in a former car garage. Architects Victoire Chancel and Carla Frick-Cloupet were invited to redesign its foyer and reception areas: access system, ticket office, refreshment bar. Starting with a simple opening up of the space, they deployed a series of design tools that deconstructed the duality between architectural theory and practice. This modest project was nonetheless ambitious in terms of methodology. 1 This small-scale project turned the usual relationship between architect and builder on its head. The architects themselves rolled up their sleeves, so that the project only really took shape during construction on site. 1
