Veils or shells, colourful, flowing drapes or repurposed technical materials: eclectic and skilfully composed to transcend constraints, Chevalier Masson’s spatial interventions anticipate the inhabited space by interacting with the smooth concrete, wood or glass surfaces of the architecture they occupy.
I met the textile design duo Éric Chevalier and Anne Masson in their offices in Forest on a warm late afternoon in March. We sat down at a large work table under the window. On the wall, a tall shelf holds as many books as it does textile samples, woven and knitted objects, and spools of thread. All these materials seem to come from past, present or future projects. During our conversation, Anne takes me through her digital archives, while Éric occasionally gets up to hand me a sample of fabric.
