Every project is an opportunity to experiment. That, at least, is our basic philosophy at Zinneke, a social-artistic association in Brussels that for the past twenty-five years has been organizing the Zinneke Parade, a large-scale, festive performance that makes its way every two years through the centre of Brussels. The Parade is the culmination of a year-and-a-half-long social-artistic participatory creation process involving residents, associations, schools and artists from various Brussels neighbourhoods and beyond.
For this titanic task, Zinneke spent years looking for a production centre it could call home, a site with creative and workshop spaces, a large metal workshop and a stock of reusable materials for the creative work. After many years of nomadism, moving from one vacant building to another, a miracle finally happened: a dilapidated site consisting of no fewer than six buildings located on Masuiplein in the Northern Quarter of Brussels was to become our permanent home!
