In September 2021, the first children skipped into the new after-school childcare centre in Zwijndrecht. Throughout the design process, the architects at Havana constantly challenged the prevailing standards and assumptions regarding children at play. The fact that this is not apparent in the final result means that the architecture has succeeded.

The brief issued by the municipality of Zwijndrecht in 2015 did not merely involve building a childcare centre for 80 children. It linked the brief to the creation of a new storage facility for the technical services. Although the programmes differ greatly from one another, the municipality insisted on creating a cohesive site.
