Winner of the Grand Prix National d’Architecture in 2006 and of the Gold Medal awarded by the Académie d’Architecture, the French architect and engineer Rudy Ricciotti represents a generation of architects who combine creative power with a genuine culture of construction. The Philharmonie in Potsdam in Germany, the Footbridge of Peace over the river Han in Seoul, and the Musée des Civilisations d’Europe et de Méditerranée (Mucem) in Marseilles are among his most prominent achievements. In Belgium, in 2010, he won the international competition for the new Centre International d’Art et de Culture (CIAC) in Liège, in collaboration with the Belgian architectural practice p.HD and the landscape architect Rita Occhiuto. His training as both an engineer (Geneva, 1975) and an architect (Marseilles, 1980) is reflected in a body of work in which technological innovation serves a return to architecture’s primal qualities. In this special lecture, he will talk about past projects and about his aesthetic.
