This autumn, Architecture in Belgium and Bozar are dedicating a monographic exhibition to the architectural work of the Ghent-based firm NU architectuuratelier. This retrospective is part of a series of exhibitions launched in 2019, dedicated to Belgian architectural firms that have attracted international attention in recent years.
The exhibition ‘Play’ offers an immersive experience with a playful approach, in collaboration with Art Basics for Children. The public, made up of adults and children, is invited to experiment with pieces of furniture from projects designed by NU architectuuratelier. Their working methodology is explained through this selection of objects and a variety of graphic documents displayed on the walls. The aim is to generate interest in the profession beyond the boundaries of the discipline.
Led by Armand Eeckels and Halewijn Lievens, NU architectuuratelier is an architecture and design research firm. Since its foundation in 2004, the firm has taken an empathetic approach to the design process and aims to make a qualitative contribution to our social and spatial environment. Recent projects include Huis Perrekes, a facility for people with dementia in Oosterlo, and their work at the Meise Botanical Garden, where they created a greenhouse and reception pavilions that secure the site while preserving it.
On 17 October 2023, an inaugural lecture by the architects followed by the opening of the ‘Play’ exhibition marked its opening. The monographic publication devoted to the work of NU architectuuratelier, which accompanies this exhibition and was published in collaboration with the publishing house Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König, was also presented.
Workshops for children
Every Wednesday afternoon, Art Basics for Children (ABC) offers children the opportunity to participate in interactive activities in the last room of the Play exhibition.
