A+317 Joints & Details in Rotterdam

On Thursday 16 April 2026, discover architecture through the lens of detail during an evening at the Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam dedicated to this theme. Architects Aurélie Hachez (founder of AHA, Belgium) and Job Floris (co-founder of Monadnock, Netherlands) will discuss details that make a difference, which is also the theme of the new issue of the magazine A+ Architecture in Belgium; A+317 Joints & Details, due to be published on 30 March 2026.

Together with architect Aurélie Hachez, the editorial team at A+ explored in this issue the various roles that detail can play. Aesthetically – as a source of spatial poetry and sensory pleasure. Fundamentally – as a strategic design tool to realise a building’s basic concept. Culturally – as a conveyor of traditional customs, craftsmanship and local knowledge. Historically – as an evolving element, from simple and experimental to complex and normative. Politically – as an activist and lever for circularity and inclusion.

This discussion will be followed by a quiz on the differences in architectural detailing between the Netherlands and Belgium. This brings to a close the first day of Exchange in Practice, a two-day exchange programme for young architects from the Netherlands and Flanders/Brussels, organised by the Nieuwe Instituut and the Flemish Architecture Institute (VAi).
