On 12 October, the VAi opened an exhibition on the architect and monk Dom Hans van der Laan. The curator is Caroline Voet (KU Leuven), who, with *A House for the Spirit*, aims to bring Hans van der Laan’s philosophy and theoretical concepts to life.

Hans van der Laan (1904–1991) published *De architectonische ruimte* (*Architectural Space*) in 1977 – 15 lessons on the disposition of human habitation – in which he sought to capture the essence of spatial experience. Concepts such as ‘superposition’, ‘proximity’ and the ‘plastic number’ form the basis of the design process in his work.
