Globe Aroma, a Brussels-based workspace and meeting place for artists and art lovers who were forced to flee, is working on a future-oriented
renovation of its infrastructure. With the support of the Flemish and Brussels architects, Globe Aroma has appointed the design team New South Karel Bruyland to develop a supported spatial future plan in co-creation with users of the space, researchers and the Globe Aroma team, and to outline the first urgent renovation works.
In the heart of Brussels, hidden behind the facades of Moutstraat, lies an artistic workplace for artists and art lovers on the run. Globe Aroma supports people who, due to their precarious citizenship, often experience specific challenges in accessing the arts sector and developing artistic practices. One of their priorities is to share space with initiatives from various sectors that have similar missions: sharing space as a form of solidarity. On the one hand, this allows them to create a more sustainable network for a community of people on the run and, on the other hand, they support other socio-cultural organisations that (also) feel the pressure of gentrification and property speculation. Globe Aroma shares its infrastructure with partners such as Terra Nova (Dutch language lessons), Compagnie Cordial (volunteer work) and The Kitchen (artistic research). In addition, the space is used by temporary partners at varying times.
