With the construction of its new headquarters in the heart of the Festinoy district in Ghlin, the social housing organisation Toit & Moi has chosen to locate itself as close as possible to its residents. To respond to this intimate proximity between housing and workspaces, the Matador studio combines introversion with permeability and inscription with monumentality.
Built according to a rationalist master plan, the Cité du Festinoy is a large, emblematic post-war housing estate. It consists of a succession of terraced houses and apartment buildings, with spaces in between alternating between individual gardens, communal courtyards and public parks, linked by an organic network of footpaths.
