On 12 October 2021, A and Bozar are inviting the London-based firm Carmody Groarke to give a talk on their body of work. Andy Groarke will provide further insight into the motivations behind their work and their ambitions for their first project in Belgium: the Design Museum in Ghent.
Carmody Groarke’s work demonstrates a deep engagement with a place’s history. Kevin Carmody and Andy Groarke met at David Chipperfield’s practice during the competition for the Neues Museum in Berlin. That project sparked many discussions about how to intervene in a European city without disrupting the continuity of history. Andy Groarke: “Those early professional experiences reinforced our conviction that architecture has an inescapable cultural dimension and must not become a tool of a neoliberal financial industry that prioritises profit as its sole objective.”
