Block by block, Peterbospark in Anderlecht is being renovated. Lacaton & Vassal and 51N4E designed the renovation of Block 9. Although their method is not new, the result is still surprising.

Peterbospark in Anderlecht has been waiting for a refurbishment for a long time. With over 1,300 homes and 4,000 residents, Peterbospark is the largest social housing estate in the Brussels Region. The estate was built between 1968 and 1980. It is a grand ensemble, similar to those built mainly in France during those years: apartment blocks scattered across a patch of green. Although it became clear in the 1970s that the model was causing problems, the neighbourhood was built anyway. Recently, the neighbourhood has increasingly been associated with urban decay and drug-related crime.
