‘Barbecues and open fires of any kind are not permitted in the Puyenbroeck provincial park,’ states a white sign in the car park by the swimming pool. For many years, there were three (or perhaps four) brick-built barbecues in that very spot. A few years ago, the brick structures were removed; according to the estate’s website, this was for organisational reasons, whilst a local resident claims it was following complaints about lavish parties in the car park, nuisance and large amounts of litter left behind.
