For Theater Océan Nord, located in a former car garage, architects Victoire Chancel and Carla Frick-Cloupet redesigned the foyer and reception areas: the entrance, ticket office and café. Starting with a simple analysis of the space, they made extensive use of project methodologies that break down the duality between architectural theory and practice. The project is modest in itself, but in methodological terms it is very ambitious.

The fact that the former garage now has the status of a theatre foyer is made clear by colour accents in the decor. An illusion is created not only by the choice of materials, but also by the spatial layout: two new steps of red concrete restructure the landscape of the garage floor and its sloping entrance. Set pieces are reused, such as the ochre-coloured curtain by artist Rachel Magnan, made of velvet that she treated with bleach, which refers to a stage curtain. Our imagination is stimulated to no longer see a garage, but a set that reminds us of a theatre.
