“As a reference, we present the work and thinking of architect Giancarlo De Carlo. Because we must never separate architecture from people. Giancarlo De Carlo is an architect, resistance fighter, anarchist activist, critical and self-critical member of the Congrès Internationaux d’Architecture Moderne (CIAM) and lecturer. De Carlo never worked for a property developer or a dictator.” – Thierry Decuypere

Italian architect Giancarlo De Carlo (1919 – 2005) had a counter-normative view of life and architecture. He is best known for his interest in anarchism and participation. He conducted the debate on the problems in architecture and architectural education in an intelligent and sensitive manner. He emphasised that architects must have an intellectual and political commitment to life in all its dimensions.
