Since 2015, the Across lecture series – a collaboration between A, the Wallonia-Brussels Cultural Institute of Architecture (ICA-WB) and the Vlaams Architectuurinstituut (Vai) – has given a voice to architects from all over Belgium who have established their practices over the last ten years. During this exchange, which takes place in Antwerp, Liège and Brussels, the speakers discuss their experiences and the specific physical and social contexts in which they work. In 2025, the Across series will be transformed into a residency programme. For four months, architects Pauline Fockedey (Nord, Brussels) and Theo De Meyer (Stand van Zaken, Ghent) will accompany eight emerging practices from both linguistic communities. Conversation with the mentors of the residency programme, which has gradually taken on the title: ‘A Good Place’.

The Across cycle was born out of a collective ambition – between A Architecture in Belgium, the VAi and the University of Liège – to build bridges between ‘young’ French-speaking and Dutch-speaking architectural practices. Following its launch in 2015, the programme gives eight emerging Belgian practices the opportunity each year to present their work in Liège or Antwerp. Three collective exhibitions have been held in Brussels (in 2018, 2019 and 2021), closing the conference cycles.
