The renovation of the government institution for youth protection (IPPJ) has been supported spatially and educationally for more than ten years by the temporary partnership between AAdd and Pigeon Ochej Paysage. The former castle, a beacon of authority, remains part of the complex, but it is primarily a void, an open space, which is central to the restructuring of the landscape and the institution.
The IPPJ in Fraipont offers four types of care. If there is no other solution to remove someone from a toxic environment, a judge may decide to place the minor offender in one of these care facilities. The open section of the institution is located on a high plateau surrounded by wooded hills and can accommodate 36 boys between the ages of 12 and 18. The extra-muros section can accommodate another 10 boys. They stay for a period of 3 to 6 months. Every year, around 250 young people stay at the institution. They are supervised by a team of educators, training workers, counsellors, a PMS team, technical and administrative services and the management. The IPPJ was built in 1972 (long before the neighbourhood acquired its chic villas), surrounded by greenery, a healing environment where you can temporarily break away from your surroundings.
