Villa Empain in Brussels is hosting an exhibition by the German-American artist duo Josef and Anni Albers. Paintings and assemblages, graphic work and textiles, films and furniture show how these pioneers of modernism helped lay the foundations for 20th-century art and architecture.
To showcase the versatility of Anni and Josef Albers’ oeuvre, the Boghossian Foundation at Villa Empain is exhibiting a collection of almost one hundred works. The selection consists of pieces by both artists, displayed chronologically and thematically, beginning with their formative training at the Bauhaus, their departure for the revolutionary Black Mountain College in the United States, the inspiration they found in pre-Columbian culture and their lasting impact on modern art.
