The Flemish Government Architect Team and the Platform Kunst in Opdracht (Art in Commission Platform) once again placed the 2022 edition of the Master’s Test under the banner of social housing.
Nine housing associations submitted ten specific assignments, for which 47 recently graduated architects and eighteen young artists worked out proposals over the past two years, either alone or in pairs. The Master’s Test gives them the opportunity to realise their first public assignment under the guidance of an experienced mentor and experts in art, techniques, stability and standards for social housing. The participants enthusiastically immersed themselves in the complex issues. Outdated buildings, fragmented ownership, weak social cohesion, under-occupancy of large homes and inefficient use of space must be addressed today if housing associations are to prepare their assets for the future.
