For more than forty years, the rural commune of Marchin has distinguished itself by cultivating a spirit of research and the emergence of new forms, not only in circus and street arts, but also in contemporary art and architecture.
A particularly coherent cultural space has taken shape in the village of Grand-Marchin. Recognised in 2018 as a Performing Arts Centre of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation – the only one located in a rural area – Latitude 50 has been developing a circus and street arts hub there since 2004. The centrepiece is a permanent circus designed by the Meunier-Westrade architectural firm and built by Stabilame. Inaugurated in October 2022, this major cultural facility, a place of creation and dissemination, doubles the capacity for companies in residence. It is therefore necessary to provide new accommodation.
