On 17 October, Bozar opened the exhibition ‘Play’ on the work of NU architectuuratelier from Ghent. A spoke with the founders of the firm, Armand Eeckels and Halewijn Lievens, focusing on their understanding of inclusive architecture in general and their care projects in particular. The spaces designed by NU balance between controlling and allowing uncertainty, between large scale and intimacy, between freedom and limitation. Not to find a simple compromise, but to see the complexity and friction between them as an opportunity, almost as beauty.

Eline DehulluNU Architectuuratelier has built several residential or living environments for people with a certain fragility. People with mental or physical disabilities, people with dementia, sick people with significant care needs, people with behavioural problems. How do you approach such designs?
