The architecture of the extension to Huize Levenslust in Linter, designed by the architectural firm B-ild, radiates the warmth of the organisation that provides a home for children and young people in vulnerable situations. To create a homely atmosphere within the building, the architects did not get bogged down in the design of details. Quite the contrary.
Huize Levenslust vzw takes in twelve children and young people who, due to circumstances, can no longer stay at home. They live there permanently, some from as young as 1 or 2 years old, until they turn 18. Each child has a carer who takes on as much of the parental care as possible. He or she helps the child with homework, takes them to school and to their hobbies, and accompanies them to the doctor. Through this kind of ‘tailored care’, Huize Levenslust aims to offer a new home to these vulnerable minors, who have little or no family network to fall back on.
