This autumn, A Architecture in Belgium and Bozar present Entangled Matter at the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels. With this exhibition, the Brussels collective Rotor explores the way in which building materials and raw materials circulate and takes a critical look at its own position in the construction economy.
Rotor has been known for almost 20 years for its work in the fields of ecology, architecture and the reuse of materials. With a wide range of projects (interior design, research, consultancy, exhibitions, publications, the development of a cooperative association, etc.), they constantly strive to investigate and question the organisation of material flows.
As part of this exhibition, the filmmaking duo Bêka & Lemoine presents a series of previously unseen short films, shot at locations for extraction, production and material processing. The locations were selected by Rotor and testify to the layered nature (or complexity) of these practices. The short films engage in a dialogue with the collective’s reflections on the challenges facing the construction sector, particularly in relation to the environmental crisis.
Rotor has won several awards, including the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, presented by the LOCUS Foundation under the supervision of UNESCO, and the Ultima for Architecture & Applied Arts in 2023.
The exhibition will open on 15 October 2024 with an opening lecture, followed by the vernissage. In addition, Rotor will also be guest editor of the special edition of issue A 310, which will be published in December 2024.
