Architecture in Belgium

Monadnock

03.03.2020

On 3 March 2020, A+ and Bozar invite the Dutch architectural firm Monadnock for a lecture at the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels.

In 2006, Job Floris and Sandor Naus founded Monadnock, in Rotterdam, after having worked in Belgium for a few years. The firm has since produced several internationally acclaimed projects, in addition to various accomplished competition submittals. Job Floris and Sandor Naus teach architecture and have written numerous texts on the theory of architecture.

As part of this conference, we have asked Monadnock to specifically reflect on the architecture of villages, the topic of the February issue of A+ (A+282). The firm’s architectural language is suited to the issue of identity which villages currently face. Completed by Monadnock in 2015, the Landmark building in Nieuw-Bergen, The Netherlands, has not only become a distinctive feature in the village, but also a proposal for of a new typology for public buildings outside of the traditional urban fabric.
