Architecture in Belgium and Bozar are pleased to invite you to the thematic double lecture ‘Building with local materials’, with Martin Rauch and BC architects & studies & materials. The lecture will take place on 2 April 2024 at a different location than usual: in Auditorium 490 – Royal Museums of Fine Arts (5 Museumstraat, Brussels).

Martin Rauch is originally from Austria and has always had a passion for using natural materials in his projects. He trained as a ceramist, specialised in building with clay and founded his own studio, Lehm Ton Erde, in 1999. Since 2010, Martin Rauch has been sharing his expertise as an honorary professor of the UNESCO Chair in Earthen Architecture. He will present a number of emblematic projects, including his own house in Schlins, designed in collaboration with Roger Boltshauser.

Like Martin Rauch, the Brussels-based firm BC architects & studies & materials has been working since 2009 with an integrated approach that encompasses all aspects of the construction process, from design to research and the production of specific materials. BC will present the Woodstock project, a holiday home on a river in the Ardennes that is built entirely from local, natural materials using innovative techniques. After both have presented their projects, Martin Rauch and BC will engage in a discussion.
